ANNOUNCEMENT

Hibernation Time

Dear Vege Threads Community

It's been a few months since my last check in and there’s been some shifting (and growing) behind the scenes. I've had lots of questions coming in about re-stocking sold out styles and if there will be an upcoming winter range, so thought it's time I tell all...

I'm having (another) baby! Very exciting times for my little family. As some of you know my first was born during peak Melbourne lockdown, which was chaos to say the least. Navigating new motherhood and the business was really tough and always said I would take a different approach & proper maternity leave should I have another child. I have been deliberating VT’s long-term plan for some time and this baby has welcomingly been the catalyst for the next chapter.

What does this all mean? Good question!

Babies don’t need to de-rail things for most established businesses but, in my case, there is no feasible way to run this label without my input. I wear many hats and simply don’t have the means or staff to keep things going & take a substantial break. So…Vege Threads is going into hibernation. I'm not closing the business for good, but the time calls for change. The break will be an undefined length of time and should I decide to come back it will be a new chapter/era of VT. I have been celebrating and reflecting the past 10 + years and couldn't be prouder of this community and brand, but it feels the right time to step back. Whatever the future holds, I am inspired by the idea of it being different and will need to find ways to sustain the same ethics, materials and makers in this current climate. This may or may not be in the sphere of clothing , time will tell.

It's no surprise that local brands are doing it tough. Some of my most admired labels have closed their doors recently and although not all for economic reasons, we can't ignore the big elephant in the room. Rising costs across the board are making things so challenging.  Things are not the same as they were a few years ago and I’ve realised there needs to be a long term strategy to keep sustainably ticking along ( along with hopes the local industry stays afloat with mills, dyers and makers. )

What’s next?

Baby is coming! Aaand baby's don't necessary stick to timeline so I will be wrapping things up over the next month. We will have a big end of era sale as we'll be packing up the warehouse & need to move all our beautiful stock! More announcements on that to come, so keep an eye on your email.

For now, I’ll take this moment to say a HUGE thank you. To everyone who has supported me and this label over the past decade. Incredible staff, creatives, friends, family, industry people, suppliers and ofcourse my customers.  This is a big virtual hug from me to you. From early beginnings selling at farmers markets, to having a store on Northcote high street to a thriving online community, it’s been an incredible journey.

The hibernation sale will be coming soon and it will be your last chance to get your hands on our VT classics. In addition, if you have any rewards/points left in your account, now is the time to redeem as points & additional discounts won't be valid in the closing sale.

Thanks for reading.

Amy
